Jeremy Moses
Smallpeice Engineering Experience
University & Course: Dr
Challoner’s Grammar School
Jeremy Moses is in Year 9 at
Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, Bucks, and he’s just
seen his first glimpse of real engineering on a
four-day Smallpeice Engineering Experience course.
After talks on engineering design and the chance to
get stuck into a robot design exercise, Jeremy and
99 other students from all over the UK worked in
small teams on detailed projects. “I worked in a
team with Devonport Management Ltd building a crane
which floated and picked up and dropped model
torpedoes using a counter balance weight,” says
Jeremy. “We had to work within a strict budget and
each team member looked after a different aspect –
budget, design, time management.” They were also
able to quiz graduates working with the different
companies leading the projects to get an idea of
what a career in engineering might be like.
