Curriculum Vitae is Latin for
Life History, and your CV should be just that. A CV
is a vital document for job search, where first
impressions count! Remember employers take circa
15-20 seconds to scan a CV. You have got this time
to make your mark and ensure your CV gets you on the
shortlist! So preparation is the key.
CV Essentials
Your CV should be:

Brief - no more
than 2 sides of white A4 paper

Accurate - always check spelling & grammar

Perfectly presented - word
processed/typed (no less than font size 10, no
italics) and consistent, ie bold or highlighted
headings, dates on the right hand side, text
justified (both margins straight) and sections
well spaced for extra definition

Powerful - use positive,
dynamic and concise language to emphasise your
skills and experience. Remember do not be too modest
about yourself!

Factual - give evidence of
your skills and aptitudes

Targeted - at a specific
employer/industry

Accompanied - by a
covering letter - try and send this to a named
individual

Avoid - gimmicks ie
bright coloured paper, different coloured inks
and portrait photographs (unless specifically
requested

Finally - remember
your CV is an advertisement for you

read your CV and decide whether it works and conveys
a real impression of you.
